DIDSBURY, Alta. - An Alberta man who beat and dragged his family's pet dog nearly to death has been sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Daniel Charles Haskett, 21, pleaded guilty in May 2007 to one count of animal cruelty and one count of obstruction of justice.
He admitted to helping bind Daisy Duke, a Lab-border-collie cross, before dragging her behind a car.
Daisy was found barely alive and was immediately destroyed by a veterinarian because of the severity of her injuries.
Crown prosecutor Gord Haight argued Haskett deserved jail time for torturing a pet that was part of the family.
He is to serve his sentence on weekends.
